There’s something special (and quirky!) about warm summer nights and watching a film outdoors. There’s currently lots of outdoor cinema options to choose from in 2019, all over the UK, from London to Brighton, Glasgow to Chester.
In London, there’s the Rooftop Film Club, with three venues showing outdoor film screenings: Shoreditch’s Queen of Hoxton, Roof East in Stratford and the Bussey Building in Peckham. Showings are on until September.
If watching a film at the beach tickles your fancy, there’s the Luna Beach Cinema at Brighton beach. It’s on from 31 July to 18 August, with films on offer including Quadrophenia, A Star Is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody and Grease.
Lichfield Cathedral has the intriguing sounding Film Festival On The Moon, running from 5 August – 21 August. Films on show include First Man, Back to the Future, ET and Apollo 13.
The Roman Gardens in Chester is home to open air cinema until 26 August, entitled Moonlight Flicks, with films showing including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Jurassic Park and Bohemian Rhaspody.
In Glasgow, there’s the Open Air Cinema at the Botanic Gardens, running from 15-18 August. Films on show include Saturday Night Fever and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Summer City at City Hall in Belfast is on over the weekend of 17-18 August. The tickets were free and on first-come, first-served basis, so are likely to be already all snapped up, but who knows! Films on show include Bohemian Rhapsody and School of Rock.
Summer Screens also has a list of many other places where outdoor cinema is available, through 2019 and onwards.
